2026: Accord Party offers waiver to Ademola Adeleke for governing-ticket
The state leadership of Accord Party (in Osun State) has announced it would grant Victor Akande’s waiver to Governor Adeleke if he chooses to contest the 2026 governorship election under its banner.
Akande stressed, however, that the speculation about the governor’s potential switch to Accord Party, and subsequent re-election bid under its platform, remains unconfirmed. According to him, neither Adeleke nor his team has formally approached the party, so the talk is “mere rumour.”
Though Accord Party already has two individuals vying for its ticket, the state chairman said the door remains open for the incumbent governor: if he decides to join, he will be welcomed, and the standing waiver will allow him to contest just like any other aspirant.
Meanwhile, the governor’s current party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has indicated that the decision on whether Adeleke stays or leaves rests solely with him, now that he has returned from a foreign trip. According to the party’s spokesperson, it awaits a clear directive from the governor.
The deadline set by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for parties to submit their candidates for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election is December 15.
