2027: Amaechi Says He Won’t Settle for VP Slot, He’s Running for Presidency

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has publicly rejected suggestions that he might accept a vice-presidential role in the 2027 election, declaring that he is running to become President, not as a “running mate.”

Amaechi Dismisses Speculation

Recent reports had linked Amaechi with a possible deputy-presidential ticket, particularly in hypothetical alliances involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

But through his media aide, Amaechi clarified that the speculation was misplaced: “Amaechi is not seeking to be running mate to anybody.”

He maintained that his ambition is solely for the presidency, stressing that he will not “settle for” the vice-presidential slot under any circumstance.

Context of the 2027 Race

Amaechi’s statement comes amid media discussion about potential ticket formations ahead of the 2027 general elections. Some supporters of Atiku had reportedly considered Amaechi as a possible running mate, especially if other leading contenders declined the invitation.

But as things stand, Amaechi has reaffirmed his commitment to contest the presidency under the banner of African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party platform he recently aligned with after leaving his former party.
