After Nigeria’s narrow 1‑0 loss to defending champions Senegal in their CHAN Group D opener, head coach Eric Chelle didn’t hold back in his post‑match verdict. Speaking via Sports Radio Brila FM, he candidly acknowledged the team’s shortcomings:

“”We were second best in every challenge today, that has to change.”

Chelle stressed the importance of his team regaining their identity, one defined by possession, creativity, and attacking intent. He explained:

“We’re at our best when we enjoy our game, keep the ball, and create scoring chances. But if we lose control for 20 minutes, we get punished, that’s the reality of football.”

He also acknowledged Senegal’s edge in physicality and intensity, noting that Nigeria must match that level of competitiveness moving forward:

“Winning games requires ambition, and to achieve that, we need to step up our aggression.”
