GCSE Grade Boundaries Released for 2025 Exam Boards

GCSE students, parents, and educators have gained a clearer understanding of this year’s grade outcomes following the publication of official grade boundaries for major exam boards including AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and Eduqas.

What Are Grade Boundaries?

Grade boundaries are the cut-off marks that convert raw scores into graded results on the 9–1 scale used in England. These thresholds are determined after exams are graded, accounting for differences in exam difficulty to maintain fairness and consistency year-to-year.

When Were They Published?

The boundaries were made available on GCSE Results Day, Thursday 21 August 2025, just before students received their exam outcomes.

What Subjects and Boards?

The released data covers key subjects including:

  1. Mathematics
  2. English Language
  3. English Literature
  4. Biology
  5. Chemistry
  6. Physics
  7. Geography

These subjects are detailed across AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, and OCR, and include both overall grade boundaries as well as notional boundaries (estimates for individual exam papers).

Why It Matters

Understanding these boundaries helps students and their families interpret results more precisely—especially when deciding whether a remark might close a gap of just one or two marks. It also provides insight into how performance compares across different boards and subjects.
