Cardi B Denies Allegations in Assault Trial, Courts Buzz with Style and Wit
Cardi B is currently in court facing a civil lawsuit filed by security guard Emani Ellis, who alleges the rapper assaulted her during a 2018 encounter outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office while Cardi was secretly four months pregnant. Ellis claims Cardi scratched her face with her long fingernail, spat on her, used racial slurs, and caused emotional trauma, injuries she says required cosmetic surgery and led to her losing her job. She’s reportedly seeking substantial damages.
Cardi’s Side of the Story
Taking the stand on August 26–27 in Los Angeles County, Cardi B firmly denied any physical contact:
“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” she asserted.
Cardi recalled the confrontation was verbal only, even though they came “chest to chest” at one point, and emphasized, “She didn’t touch me… she was going to touch me, but she didn’t get to.”
She explained the sting of secrecy around her pregnancy, saying she feared exposure. The guard’s recording made her uncomfortable, prompting her to question, “Why are you recording?” to which Ellis reportedly replied, “Oh my bad.”
On the nail controversy, Cardi clarified her acrylic nails were coffin-shaped, not sharp or injurious.
Receptionist Tierra Malcolm, who stepped in during the incident, testified she saw no physical fight, aligning more closely with Cardi’s version of events.
Courthouse Moments That Stole the Spotlight
The trial’s most replayed scenes weren’t about testimony, they were about style and humor:
On Day 2, Cardi appeared in a bold white tailored suit with oversized sunglasses, making a fashion statement that lit up social media.
A day earlier, she turned heads in an extravagant $7,000-plus Giambattista Valli tweed outfit, complete with fringe, luxury accessories, and a platinum-blonde wig.
Her wigs also sparked chuckles, after switching styles between sessions, an attorney quizzed her, “Which one is your real hair?” Cardi simply laughed, “They’re wigs.”
Her courtroom presence inspired a viral meme wave, some likened her look to Jim Carrey, Spock, or Ringo Starr, turning the legal setting into pop culture fodder.
