Veekee James Proudly Honors Her Roots, Attributes Success to Faith and Hard Work
Fashion designer Veekee James delivered a heartfelt message during an appearance on The Nancy Isime Show, insisting that she will never forsake her humble beginnings and describing her journey in fashion as a testament to God’s grace.
Growing up in Ajegunle, Lagos, without a father from the age of five, Veekee recounted how she once faced backlash after sharing a social media video with her husband, Femi Atere. Critics accused her of diminishing the elegance of her established brand with what they labeled “classless” content.
Rather than shun her past, Veekee leaned into it, emphasizing that her success wasn’t self-made but a result of divine help. “If it were by human power, I would not be where I am today,” she reflected. “I was just a girl who grew up without a father. I had to walk my way up here”.
Veekee further underscored that she won’t reshape her narrative to fit societal ideals of “class.” She asserted:
“I cannot be the girl who didn’t grow up in Ajegunle just to fit into that class… I’m always going to be me, and that’s why I’m Veekee James, I’m not any other fashion designer.”
