Ice Prince Reflects on Unresolved Tension with Late Rapper AKA
Renowned Nigerian rapper Ice Prince Zamani has shared emotional insights about his relationship with the late South African rapper AKA, expressing deep regret over an unresolved misunderstanding before AKA’s death.
Speaking on the G2G Podcast, Ice Prince revealed that their friendship suffered a serious strain during the 2019 xenophobic violence in South Africa. AKA’s Twitter comments directed at Nigerians prompted Ice Prince to publicly confront him on social media, an exchange that unfortunately remained unsettled. “I wish we got to speak about it,” he said, emphasizing that AKA was more than just a collaborator, he was a friend who had visited his home in Lagos multiple times.
Now mourning the loss, Ice Prince shared that he sees AKA during his moments of prayer, a sign, he believes, that they have found peace. “Sometimes, when I’m praying I see him there. So, I know we are at peace. I know he looks out for me as one of my homeboys in heaven.”
AKA was tragically shot dead by a gunman outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10, 2023. The trial into his murder is ongoing, with details yet to be fully resolved.
