MTV VMAs 2025: Tyla, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande Among Big Winners
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards delivered a night of glitz, triumphs, and history-making wins at the UBS Arena in New York on Sunday, September 7.
South African pop sensation Tyla clinched the Best Afrobeats Award for her hit single Push 2 Start, reaffirming her growing global influence. The 23-year-old Grammy winner beat a strong lineup of Nigerian stars including Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Asake, and Wizkid. This marks Tyla’s second consecutive victory in the category, following her 2024 win with Water. Although she also received a nomination for Best Choreography, she missed out on that award.
The night, however, largely belonged to Lady Gaga, who emerged as the top winner with four trophies, including the coveted Artist of the Year. Gaga triumphed over heavyweights like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, and Kendrick Lamar, dedicating her awards to her fiancé, Michael Polansky, and her loyal fans known as “Little Monsters.”
Pop powerhouse Ariana Grande and rising star Sabrina Carpenter also shone brightly, each taking home three awards. Grande won Video of the Year for Brighter Days Ahead, while Carpenter secured recognition as Best Pop Artist and collected two additional honors, further solidifying her status as one of pop’s most promising acts.
