Actor Yemi Solade Says No Actress Buys G-Wagon Solely with Acting Earnings
Veteran Nigerian actor Yemi Solade has stated that it is unrealistic for any actress in Nollywood to purchase a luxury SUV like a G-Wagon purely from her acting income.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Solade explained that the fees paid for acting roles are not high enough to cover the cost of such high-end vehicles. He pointed out that while acting carries fame and visibility, the financial rewards alone are insufficient.
He suggested that actresses who do own such vehicles usually have additional income streams — side businesses, producing films, or other ventures. Some may receive gifts from benefactors, he added.
Solade stressed: “In the industry, no actress will say that the G Wagon that she has was bought from the proceeds she got from acting.” Even if one can purchase one via producing, acting alone won’t generate enough.
With over thirty years in film, having appeared in both English and Yoruba productions, Solade is known for his candid takes on the economics of the entertainment industry.
