Legendary R&B Group Shalamar to Headline Abuja Concert for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary

In celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, the legendary American R&B group Shalamar is set to headline a special concert in Abuja on October 4, 2025, at the International Conference Centre.

The trio, Howard Hewett, Carolyn Griffey, and Jeffrey Daniel—will perform some of their timeless hits, including “A Night to Remember” and “I Can Make You Feel Good.”

The event is being promoted by iCreate Africa in partnership with First Culture Limited, aiming to draw both longtime fans of Shalamar and younger audiences.

Bright Jaja, CEO of iCreate Africa, described the concert as a cultural milestone. He noted that including Nigeria in Shalamar’s global tour acknowledges the support their music has received here over the years.

Meanwhile, Tunde Babalola, Creative Director at First Culture, said the show is conceived as a “musical bridge between the past and present,” promising an evening rich in nostalgia and memorable performances.

Shalamar, renowned for their contributions to funk, soul, and R&B, sold more than 25 million records globally before disbanding in their classic form in the 1980s.

Their last performance in Nigeria was in 1982, when they played sold-out shows in Lagos, Ibadan, and other cities.

Jeffrey Daniel, credited with introducing the dance move later known as the “moonwalk,” expressed excitement in a video message, promising that their Abuja concert will indeed be “a night to remember.”
