Naira Marley Urges Nigerian Youths to Reconsider Sports Betting
Popular Nigerian singer and rapper Naira Marley (Azeez Fashola) has issued a strong warning to young people across the country, cautioning them against heavy involvement in sports betting.
Taking to his X account, the “Tesumole” crooner reminded his followers that “football bet no be work” and implored them to stop throwing away their money. His message underscores the growing concern over how widely sports gambling has become among the youth.
His warning comes as recent data paints a worrying picture: a Business Insider Africa report reveals that Nigeria leads the African continent in sports betting participation. The report estimates that there are about 168.7 million active bettors in the country and that 70% of Nigerians aged 30 and under are engaged in betting activities.
