Rema Named to 2025 TIME100 Next List, Profiled by Angélique Kidjo
Nigerian Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has been selected for the 2025 TIME100 Next list, spotlighting rising leaders and talents across various fields.
He is the only African artist on this year’s roster, and his inclusion comes with a profile written by Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo.
Kidjo praised him as “the embodiment of the international success of Afrobeats,” and noted that his hit track “Calm Down” has entered the billion-streams club more than once.
Kidjo highlighted Rema’s role in pushing African music into the global cultural spotlight, asserting that artists like him are key to the continent’s rising influence in world music.
