M.I Abaga Says He Would Prefer to Raise His Children in Nigeria
Renowned Nigerian rapper and music executive M.I Abaga has revealed that, despite the allure of living abroad, he would rather bring up his children in Nigeria. He cited the country’s strong communal values and family support network as key factors in his preference.
In a recent interview, M.I acknowledged that raising children overseas comes with advantages, but he cautioned that in many foreign settings, extended family members are often too busy with professional commitments to provide hands-on support.
He remarked,
“There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system … there’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents abroad.”
The rapper further emphasised that in Nigeria, it is more feasible for families to rally around new parents—neighbors, aunts, uncles, and grandparents can step in to assist with caregiving in ways that are often harder to replicate abroad.
While M.I stopped short of making formal plans for family life, he said his inclination is to anchor his children in Nigerian culture during their early years, possibly relocating later to expose them to global opportunities. “Maybe it’s a thing like early years here and then at a certain point, move,” he mused.
