Shawn Faqua and Sharon Ifunanya Spotlight Igbo Heritage in Multi-Look Traditional Wedding
Nollywood actor and producer Shawn Faqua and event-planner Sharon Ifunanya marked their traditional wedding ceremony with a flamboyant celebration of Igbo culture and style.
Notably, the couple presented three distinct fashion looks during the event, each evocative of Igbo heritage and radiating elegance. In their first ensemble, Sharon dazzled in a gold-sequinned top, wrapped in red, and crowned with a red‐and‐gold headwrap, while Shawn complemented her in a dark awuru fabric adorned with isiagu prints, red cap detailed with cowries, and layers of coral beads.
Their second look embraced a palette of white, red and gold: Shawn wore a white robe and drape, red wrapper and red hat topped with a white feather, and coral beads that stood out against the white fabric. Sharon opted for a fitted corset gown in red with intricate beadwork, styled with an up-do (suku) and matching coral jewellery.
For the third look, the focus turned to the classic Igbo akwete fabric: Sharon appeared in a white sequinned top paired with a layered akwete skirt knotted at the waist, woven in shades of blue, purple, orange, green, brown and off-white, embellished with stoning for added flair. Her white headwrap and purple-silver jewellery tied the look together in a nod to retro Igbo bridal elegance from the ’70s and ’80s.
The ceremony not only celebrated their union, but served as a visual tribute to Igbo cultural heritage, combining fashion, tradition and the personal love story of the couple in one vibrant weekend.
