Guardiola: We’ll “try to close the gap” on Arsenal as title race intensifiesGuardiola: We’ll “try to close the gap” on Arsenal as title race intensifies

Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, has reaffirmed his side’s ambition to bridge the gap on Arsenal in the Premier League, underlining that although the Gunners are enjoying a strong start, his team remain very much in the title hunt.

City’s recent 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa saw Arsenal extend their lead at the summit to six points after nine games. Despite this, Guardiola insisted: “We have to try to close … Arsenal have been solid for many years. This time the concern is how we can improve , better, better, better, and to be close.”

The City boss emphasised that the season remains long and demanding. “From my experience it is so long. So long. There are many teams there and we have a good test [up ahead],” he said.

Guardiola acknowledged Arsenal’s consistency and momentum, but stressed that Manchester City’s experience and mentality mean they are not giving up. He argued that maintaining high standards and continuing to improve are central to their challenge going forward.

With the title race now heating up, Guardiola’s message is clear: City will keep fighting, but they know they must step up if they are to catch Arsenal.
