Spurs dominate to hand Everton first home defeat at new stadium
In the Premier League on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur secured a convincing 3-0 victory away at Everton FC, becoming the first side to win at the Toffees’ new home venue, Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Dutch defender Micky van de Ven was the standout performer, heading in both of Tottenham’s first‐half goals from set‐piece situations (in the 19th minute and just before half-time).
The third goal came late in the 89th minute, when substitute Pape Matar Sarr nodded home to seal the outcome.
Everton thought they had found a way back into the game when Jake O’Brien glanced in a header, but the effort was overturned following a VAR review on off-side interference with the keeper.
Tottenham’s win boosts them to third place in the league table, while Everton now drop to 14th amid concerns over their new stadium home record.
Manager Thomas Frank’s side made the most of their set-piece strength and away form, rising to 13 points from their last 15 on the road.
For Everton, coach David Moyes will reflect on missed scoring opportunities and the impact of lapses from corners which had, until now, proven no issue at home.
The match also marks a symbolic moment for Everton’s new venue, ending their unbeaten home run since its opening.
