American Grammy-winning singer Ciara Princess Wilson has extended a warm embrace to Lagos, declaring the city as her home during a recent visit. Arriving in Nigeria ahead of the 2025 Lagos Fashion Week (which runs from October 29 to November 3), Ciara said she feels an unmistakable connection to the city.

Wearing a vibrant blue traditional adire gown and matching headgear, she was filmed dancing with local performers and exclaiming “Eko oni baje”, a Yoruba phrase meaning “Lagos will not be ruined.”

During her stay, she met with Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Governor of Lagos State, at the Lagos House on Marina. The friendly exchange saw the governor greet her with a smile, saying, “I think you’ve taken over the city,” to which Ciara responded: “I am home.” The Guardian Nigeria

At the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that Ciara had visited places that represent “the real heart” of Lagos, its markets, its children, its energy. Ciara replied that she was “really so happy to be here.”

The singer’s arrival coincides with her birthday celebration and further highlights Lagos’ growing role as a hub of tourism, art and fashion. As noted by a senior special assistant to the governor, she is in town “to celebrate our Tourism, our Art, and our culture.”

At the fashion-week event itself, Ciara made a striking appearance wearing a daring design by Nigerian luxury brand Onalaja. Her choice of outfit underscored the fusion of global celebrity and African creative identity, and reaffirmed Lagos’ position as a centre of style and innovation.

Ciara’s visit thus stands as a gesture of cultural alignment, not just of a star on a fashion trip, but of someone declaring Lagos as home, embracing local craft and celebrating a city in motion.
