Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Escalating Violence in Kebbi and Zamfara

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the recent surge in violence and mass kidnappings in Kebbi and Zamfara states, warning that Nigeria is sliding into a state of constant fear.

In a statement shared on his X account, Obi expressed deep sorrow at the attack on Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi, which saw several schoolgirls abducted and at least one staff member killed.

He also pointed to a separate raid in Fegin Baza, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where three people were reportedly killed and around 64 residents abducted.

Obi lamented that even schools, traditionally seen as safe havens, are no longer immune to such terror, calling them “vulnerable targets.”

He sympathized with the affected communities, the families of the abducted, and the security agencies working to contain the crisis.

He issued a strong call for more decisive action, urging both federal and state governments to strengthen security, reform the nation’s security architecture, and launch a determined effort to rescue the captives.

Obi prayed for the safe return of those taken, comfort for grieving families, and endurance for security forces battling to restore peace.

“The nation’s children deserve safety, and its citizens deserve to live without fear,” he said, stressing that the current trajectory of insecurity must not be allowed to become normalized.
