Wolfsburg Down Manchester United in Dramatic Women’s Champions League Clash
VfL Wolfsburg handed Manchester United their first defeat of the 2025–26 UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage, defeating them 5–2 in a pulsating game at the Volkswagen Arena.
The hosts raced into the lead thanks to a well-placed header by Fridolina Rolfö, who scored against her former club in the 14th minute.
Wolfsburg’s momentum continued as Ella Peddemors curled in an equalizer just three minutes later after capitalizing on a loose clearance. She then doubled the lead in the 37th minute with a curled cross that settled into the bottom corner.
As the first half neared its end, Lineth Beerensteyn extended Wolfsburg’s advantage with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, making it 3–1 at the break.
United weren’t done before halftime, though. Melvine Malard spun cleverly to chip the ball into the net in stoppage time, reducing the deficit to 3–2.
But Wolfsburg came out strong in the second half, and Beerensteyn added her second goal of the night in the 65th minute to restore their two-goal cushion.
In the dying seconds, Vivien Endemann capitalized on a defensive error to tap home Wolfsburg’s fifth goal deep into stoppage time, completing a high‑scoring finish.
The win halts United’s three‑match winning streak in the competition and underscores Wolfsburg’s strength as a Champions League contender.
