Ekiti Governor Visits Injured Victims After Clash Between Soldiers and Traders, Calls for Better Civil-Military Relations

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has strongly condemned the violent clash between military personnel and traders at the Fayose Market in Ado Ekiti, after three people were seriously injured.

On Wednesday, Oyebanji (represented by his Deputy, Monisade Afuye) visited the injured victims at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), expressing sympathy and pledging to pay their medical bills.

The governor urged the military to exercise restraint when dealing with civilians, warning that repeated incidents of brutality damage relationships between uniformed forces and the public.

Oyebanji also promised that those responsible for the attack would be held accountable, describing the incident as “unacceptable” and ensuring that justice would be served.

At the hospital, the Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, said the three wounded individuals are now stabilising after surgeons removed bullets and treated their injuries.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Fayose Market, Adeleye Adekunle, called for calm. He urged stakeholders, including traders, government, and the military, to hold a tripartite discussion to resolve the underlying tensions.
