38 Worshippers Abducted from Kwara Church Freed After Five Days
Thirty-eight members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, have been released after five days in captivity, following their abduction during a thanksgiving service.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaiye, announced the release on Sunday, attributing the safe return to intense efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and multiple security agencies.
In his statement, Governor AbdulRazaq praised President Tinubu’s “hands-on” leadership in the rescue operation. He noted that the president cancelled a scheduled trip to the G20 summit in South Africa and ordered a ramp-up of security in Kwara, signaling his commitment to restoring public safety.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police, which deployed four tactical teams into Kwara State under the president’s directive.
Details remain unclear about how and where the freed worshippers were held or how the operation to free them was conducted.
