Lamido demands dissolution of Ibadan convention as PDP crisis worsens

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, former Jigawa State Governor, has called for the outright dissolution of the recent Ibadan convention that purportedly elected new national leadership, citing its illegitimacy.

Speaking on Thursday at his Kano residence while meeting with former local government chairmen and other PDP stakeholders, Lamido argued that the party’s incumbent leadership, under Umar Damagum as Acting National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, remains valid until their tenure ends on 8 December 2025.

He urged that instead of proceeding with the divisive convention, a neutral caretaker committee be installed to manage party affairs until the internal crisis is resolved and the next primaries are arranged.

Lamido lamented that long-standing party members like himself are being sidelined by what he described as “outsiders” who have taken over the PDP’s control, a situation he says threatens the party’s legacy and cohesion.

He appealed to all factions to “forgive and reconcile,” warning that allowing the dispute to fester could undermine the PDP’s credibility and electoral prospects.
