Obi rejects corruption culture, urges Nigerians abroad to lead by integrity
Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians, especially students studying abroad, to reject corruption and embrace integrity as a lifestyle, arguing that true leadership begins with personal example.
In a message shared on social media, Obi revealed that he recently spoke at Imperial College London under the theme “Bridging Worlds: Leadership and the Power to Inspire Change.” He described the Nigerian diaspora as “living bridges” between a Nigeria in need of reform and the disciplined systems they experience overseas.
He urged the students to leverage their exposure abroad, including discipline, innovation and good governance practices, to contribute positively to Nigeria, whether they stay abroad or return home.
Obi emphasized that leadership is rooted in consistent character, not occasional gestures. “Integrity is not something you switch on when convenient; it is a way of life,” he said. He warned that allowing corruption to become normalized undermines the foundations of society, and urged individuals to refuse “cut-corners” and stand by honesty.
According to him, if enough people reject corruption and uphold integrity, Nigeria’s long-standing issues with governance and mismanagement can begin to change.
