Sanwo-Olu Urges Nigerians to Sustain Democracy
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to remain committed to strengthening the country’s democratic institutions and civic values.
Speaking through a representative during an award event at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, which also marked him as the “2025 Man of the Year” by Nigerian NewsDirect, Sanwo-Olu stressed that democracy thrives when individuals across all sectors, public service, business, academia, and the arts, push boundaries, uphold integrity, and strive for the common good.
He described the recognition as a reminder of the responsibilities tied to leadership and civic duty, urging citizens to champion values such as accountability, hard work and social responsibility.
According to him, sustaining democracy depends on collective efforts, not just from government officials, but also ordinary citizens working through their daily actions to build “a Nigeria where hope is alive, progress is consistent and democracy remains strong.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu dedicated the award to “hardworking public servants, supportive communities and optimistic youth,” imploring them to carry forward the ideals of democracy with renewed commitment.
