UK Rapper Ghetts Pleads Guilty to Fatal Hit‑and‑Run

British rapper Ghetts, real name Justin Clarke-Samuel, has admitted in court that he caused the death of 20‑year‑old student Yubin Tamang after a hit‑and‑run crash in Ilford, northeast London on 18 October 2025.

Prosecutors said Ghetts was driving at over 60 mph in a 30 mph zone when the collision occurred, and failed to stop after hitting Tamang, who died two days later in hospital.

Legal admissions and charges

At a hearing at the Old Bailey (via videolink from prison), Ghetts pleaded guilty to “causing death by dangerous driving,” as well as to additional counts of dangerous driving for other incidents involving his BMW M5 on the same evening in different parts of London.

Regulators have disqualified him from driving immediately; sentencing is scheduled for 12 February 2026.

Court reaction & investigation details

Judge Mark Lucraft KC said the only appropriate sentence is custodial.

According to investigators, Ghetts’ car was found early the next morning near his home in Woodford, the vehicle bore extensive damage including a smashed windscreen and missing side mirror, consistent with a collision.

Law enforcement described the guilty pleas as “a step towards justice,” while warning that “split‑second decisions behind the wheel can have devastating, life‑changing consequences.”

Background on Ghetts

Ghetts, aged 41, is a prominent figure in the UK grime/rap scene. Over the years he has earned nominations (e.g. for the Mercury Prize) and accolades (e.g. the MOBO Award for Best Male Act in 2021).

He has collaborated with major artists and also acted in the Netflix series Supacell.

Aftermath & what’s next

With the guilty pleas entered, Ghetts now awaits a custodial sentence. Given the circumstances, fatality, excessive speed, dangerous driving, and hit‑and‑run, a prison term is widely expected.

The family of the victim, Yubin Tamang, was reportedly present during the court hearing and will continue to seek justice.
