Hollywood Filmmaker’s Son Charged with Murder in Parents’ Fatal Stabbing

The son of celebrated Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, has been formally charged with the murder of his parents following their discovery in their Los Angeles home earlier this week.

Nick Reiner, 32, was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the brutal double killing of his father, 78-year-old director Rob Reiner, and his 70-year-old mother, Michele Singer Reiner, a photographer and film producer.

Authorities say the couple was found stabbed to death on Sunday in their Brentwood residence, prompting a homicide investigation that led police to take Nick Reiner into custody hours after the bodies were discovered.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges on Tuesday, including a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, which may result in an enhanced sentence if he is convicted. Prosecutors also allege that a knife was used as the deadly weapon.

Reiner is currently being held without bail at a Los Angeles County jail. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment without parole — and prosecutors have said they are considering whether to seek the death penalty, although no final decision has yet been made.

Legal proceedings have been complicated by reports that Nick Reiner was not medically cleared to appear in court immediately, delaying his arraignment.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond, with tributes pouring in for the Reiners. Rob Reiner was a veteran filmmaker known for iconic works such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men. Michele Singer Reiner was also widely respected for her creative contributions behind the camera.

As the case unfolds, law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the killings, and no official motive has yet been released.
