Nasarawa State Allocates ₦25 Billion for Flyover Projects on Abuja Mararaba Road
The Nasarawa State Government has earmarked ₦25 billion in its 2026 budget for the construction of two flyovers along the Abuja Mararaba market corridor in Karu Local Government Area, aimed at easing persistent traffic congestion on one of the region’s busiest transport routes.
Mrs Munira Abdullahi, the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, disclosed the allocation during a budget breakdown presentation in Lafia, pointing out that the flyovers form part of the administration’s broader infrastructure priorities for the coming year. The projects are intended to improve traffic flow, reduce travel times, and enhance road efficiency for commuters and traders in the rapidly growing urban axis adjoining the Federal Capital Territory.
In addition to the Abuja Mararaba flyovers, the state’s 2026 budget also assigns funds for other major road works, including the construction of a flyover in Keffi Local Government Area and an underpass in Akwanga Local Government Area, reflecting a broader push to upgrade transport infrastructure across Nasarawa.
The planned flyovers have previously received approval from the Federal Government, with authorities expecting the interventions to offer lasting relief from the chronic gridlock that has plagued the Karu Mararaba corridor, which serves as a key commuter and commercial link between Nasarawa and Abuja.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who signed the ₦545.2 billion 2026 budget into law, reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing capital projects that enhance mobility, support economic activities and respond to residents’ needs, with infrastructure development taking a central place in the state’s development agenda.
