Kwara APC Membership List Spark Controversy as Stakeholders Challenge Alleged Fake Signatures
A sensitisation meeting held by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during its ongoing e‑registration exercise in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area turned controversial after party stakeholders raised serious concerns about the presence of deceased individuals’ names on a purported membership document.
The event, attended by party officials, ward executives, and local leaders including Hon. Saddiq Buhari, Adviser on Social Investment to the Kwara Governor, was meant to encourage participation in the APC’s online registration drive. However, the mood shifted when a youth delegate alerted the gathering that his late father’s name, who had served as Vice Chairman of Tsaragi Ward III before passing away over a year ago, appeared on a list presented in support of a suspended state legislator, Hon. Yisa Gideon.
Another attendee also identified the name and signature of a former Ward Public Relations Officer (PRO), who was reportedly killed in the Lata‑Nna attack, on the same document — sparking immediate backlash from party members questioning its legitimacy.
Members from several wards, including Tsaragi Ward I and the community of Dugbangi, condemned the document as fraudulent, demanding clarification and accountability from party leaders. Many described including deceased individuals’ signatures as a deliberate attempt to mislead the APC and fabricate support for internal party matters.
Reacting to the accusations, Hon. Saddiq Buhari dismissed the document as fake, stating that numerous ward chairmen and executives had not seen or signed it, and distancing the official party leadership from its contents. He affirmed support for any disciplinary steps taken against those responsible for the misconduct.
Similarly, Hon. Hajiya Mariam Imam, Commissioner for Social Development, labelled the controversy as “politics of filthiness,” urging the party to sanction any members found culpable.
Despite the dispute, APC organisers stressed that the core purpose of the gathering remained the sensitisation of members on the online membership registration process, and called on supporters to stay focused on party unity and the Kwara North governorship agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
