The Federal Government is to begin the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele today on accusations of alleged economic sabotage.

Emefiele, whose trial was earlier postponed, will now be arraigned at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to a notice obtained by Vistanaij Media, the ex-CBN Governor will appear in court alongside Ramalan Yaro.

A court registrar who requested anonymity verified that Emefiele would be hauled before the court this morning to submit his guilty or not guilty plea.

Maxwell Opara, a lawyer on Emefiele’s defence team, also confirmed that the former CBN Governor had received a notice of arraignment necessitating his attendance in court.

Emefiele will be accompanied to court by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Matthew Burkaa, who has agreed to guarantee his presence during the trial. While granting Emefiele bail, Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi of the FCT High Court approved this undertaking.
