Adamawa Polls: INEC REC Arrested by Police as Investigations Continue

Barrister Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Adamawa State, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for alleged impropriety during the recently concluded supplementary gubernatorial polls in the State. Following calls for his arrest and investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team apprehended Barrister Ari on Tuesday 2nd May, 2023, in Abuja.

Barrister Ari is currently in Police custody and is being interrogated to determine the motives behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary elections in Adamawa State. Additionally, other officials and individuals implicated in the matter are being questioned by the Police team.

The Inspector-General of Police has given his assurance that all individuals involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended and investigated in accordance with the law for possible prosecution. The Inspector-General of Police has reiterated the Force’s commitment to ensuring justice is served in this case, and all guilty parties are brought to justice.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, the Force Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the arrest of Barrister Ari and assured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to the investigation and prosecution of all parties implicated in the matter.
