Apple Retires Several iPhones as New iPhone 17 Lineup Arrives
With the arrival of the iPhone 17 series, Apple has quietly phased out several older iPhone models from its product lineup, trimming down its offerings and spotlighting the latest innovations.
Models That Have Been Dropped
According to Tom’s Guide, Apple has removed the following models from sale immediately after the iPhone 17 unveiling:
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
In contrast, the non-Pro versions, iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, remain available with a modest price reduction.
Other reports suggest that this transition aligns with Apple’s broader strategy: older models might be discontinued, marked as vintage or obsolete, and the company’s focus shifted to new devices and emerging technologies.
New Devices Take Center Stage
The discontinuations coincide with the official launch of the iPhone 17 series, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new ultra-slim iPhone Air.
What This Means for Consumers
Buyers seeking the latest hardware may now turn to the iPhone 17 lineup, as earlier models lose prominence in Apple’s official stores.
The remaining iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may offer a compromise for cost-conscious buyers, a step down from the priciest models yet still up-to-date with relatively recent technology.
Owners of older iPhones should be aware that availability of some models may be limited moving forward and resale value may shift as demand changes.
