Army Chief Orders Troops to Rescue 25 Abducted Schoolgirls in Kebbi
The Chief of Army Staff has directed Nigerian troops to intensify efforts to rescue the 25 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.
The girls were taken in a pre-dawn raid, and in response, a combined security operation involving the army, police tactical units, and local vigilantes has been launched.
Officials confirmed that during the attack, the school’s vice principal, Hassan Makuku, was killed, while a security guard was wounded.
The Federal Government, through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reaffirmed its commitment to securing the safe return of the girls and bringing those responsible to justice.
President Bola Tinubu has personally issued directives to security and intelligence agencies to “locate and rescue” the students.
As part of the intensified response, security forces are “combing bandit escape routes and nearby forests” in a coordinated rescue mission.
The government also says it is strengthening its intelligence, military, and policing capacity, while working with regional partners such as ECOWAS and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to curb cross-border criminal networks.
Families of the missing girls and local communities are being urged to remain calm as the rescue operation continues.
