AY Makun Rejects Rumours of Reconciliation with Estranged Wife
Prominent Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo “AY” Makun has publicly refuted speculation that he is attempting to reconcile with his estranged wife, Mabel, more than a year after their separation.
The couple, married in 2008, confirmed their separation in April 2024, ending a 16-year marriage. Their relationship had previously been the focus of public scrutiny in 2016 when Mabel was reported to have moved out of their Lekki home, and again in 2017 when she publicly asked a Lagos socialite to keep away from her husband, both instances were later denied by the parties involved.
On Thursday via Instagram, AY denounced ongoing reports claiming that he, with the help of family, approached Mabel in an effort to rekindle their marriage. He described these narratives as “false and manipulative,” fashioned solely for “traffic and engagement,” and aimed at misleading the public.
AY made it clear that he never authorized or made such statements. “If I wish to communicate my personal position on any matter,” he asserted, “I have the platform, the reach, and the credibility to do so directly, not through faceless blogs and rumour-driven platforms”.
Additionally, he announced his intention to pursue legal action against purveyors of these stories. “This serves as a final warning: all such false narratives should be disregarded by the public. Moving forward, the appropriate legal measures will be instituted … Enough of the lies,” he declared.
The former couple share two daughters, Michelle and Ayomide.
