Bandits Attack and Abduct Travellers on Abuja-Kaduna Highway

A gruesome incident occurred on Wednesday night as bandits attacked motorists in Iche community, just a few kilometers away from Kagarko town along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The incident occurred around 7 pm on Wednesday shortly after breaking of fast. Eyewitnesses reported that scores of travellers were abducted by the bandits who were armed with AK-47 rifles as reported by Daily Trust.

According to Shuaibu Yahaya, a resident of the community, the bandits shot and deflated the tyres of vehicles before proceeding to abduct passengers. “Their gunshots attracted my attention because my house is not far from the scene. While some of the vehicles rammed into their blockade, some of them quickly made a U-turn,” he said.

The Madaki of Janjala, Samaila Babangida, who confirmed the incident, expressed sadness and stated that he had received a call from Kagarko that bandits had abducted some passengers. However, he couldn’t ascertain the exact number of those abducted.

As at the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command has not issued any statement on the incident. The attack on the Abuja-Kaduna highway has become a recurring incidence, causing many to call for better security measures to be put in place to protect travellers along the highway.
