In the latest turn within the popular horror‑comedy franchise built by Maddock Films, director and producer Amar Kaushik has clarified the shift in casting for the upcoming title Shakti Shalini. The project previously reported to star Kiara Advani has instead officially brought aboard Aneet Padda in the lead role.

What changed
Kaushik explained that as the screenplay evolved the character’s profile shifted toward a younger performer, prompting the casting change. “When we were writing the script, we realised that we needed a younger actor… we saw her [Aneet Padda] film Saiyaara and realised she suited the part perfectly for that character.” he said.

He also emphasised that the decision was made on creative grounds rather than as a direct replacement: “We wanted someone younger for that character… she caught things really well during the screen‑test and the reading.”

Production & release timeline
The film is scheduled to start shooting in January 2026 and is set for theatrical release on 24 December 2026.

Kaushik added the forthcoming film will diverge somewhat from previous entries in the franchise, promising “humour, plenty of thrills, drama and super‑human elements”.

What it means for Kiara Advani and Aneet Padda
While several earlier reports suggested Advani had been locked into the role, the production side clarified that no formal deal had been finalised before the script changes.

For Padda, who gained fresh recognition for her role in Saiyaara, this marks a major opportunity within a high‑profile franchise.

Why it matters
This casting update underscores how dynamic creative decisions are in major film universes. Even high‑profile actors like Kiara Advani can be re‑evaluated if the story dictates a different fit. Meanwhile, the industry shows its readiness to elevate newer faces when elements align.
