Lagos, Nigeria (August 20, 2025), Veteran singer-songwriter Brymo, known for his boundary-pushing artistry, has publicly admonished superstars such as Burna Boy, Davido, and other top-tier musicians for frequently appearing on remixes of hit songs originally released by up-and-coming artists.

In an Instagram Story post on Tuesday, Brymo vehemently criticized the trend, asserting, “Dear Nigerian mainstream ‘A-listers,’ Burna [Boy], Davido and Co, stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts. Let other artistes find their own way. The pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch. Stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business. It’s vile!”.

He argued that rather than genuinely supporting emerging talents, these collaborations often seem more about riding the wave of trending songs to boost their own relevance. Brymo insisted this behavior hindered younger artists from establishing their own fan bases and carving distinct paths in the industry.

Broader Reactions & Industry Dialogue

Brymo’s remarks have ignited mixed responses across social media and entertainment platforms. While some fans applaud his frank critique, others defend collaborations as strategic tools that help nascent artists reach wider audiences through the established artists’ fan bases.

This isn’t Brymo’s first time stirring debate. In 2024, he had accused Burna Boy of lifting parts of his tracks and even implicated Davido and 2Baba in launching attacks against him, sparking tense exchanges about intellectual property and industry rivalry.
