Comedian Reggie Carroll Fatally Shot; Suspect Worked as Katt Williams’s Security
Reggie Carroll, a 52-year-old American comedian, tragically lost his life on August 20, 2025, after being shot in Southaven, Mississippi. Responding to a distress call, officers discovered Carroll badly wounded in a property on Burton Lane. Despite being rushed to a hospital in nearby Memphis, he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
Authorities swiftly arrested 38-year-old Tranell Marquise Williams, who has now been charged with Carroll’s murder. As confirmed by local media, Williams had been working as a security guard for comedian Katt Williams while both were on the “Heaven on Earth” comedy tour.
Intriguingly, the shooting occurred at a location tied to Katt Williams’s business ventures, a property that also doubled as the suspect’s last known address and was home to Williams’s merchandise operation. A 14-day eviction notice, citing “criminal activity,” was issued in the wake of the incident.
Carroll’s career spanned notable television and stage appearances, including Showtime at the Apollo, the Knockout Kings of Comedy special, The Parkers, and the TV movie Rent & Go.
News of his passing drew a wave of tributes:
Mo’Nique, actress and fellow comedian, reminisced fondly about their shared time on tour, calling Carroll a “brother in comedy” and expressing gratitude for their fulfilled moments together.
Carroll’s family, particularly his brother, shared their shock and grief, demanding clarity and justice. One relative lamented feeling as helpless as when a family member vanishes unexpectedly, saying, “something happens to them, and you don’t know what exactly.”
Mobtown Comedy, a Baltimore comedy hub, honored him for being an early supporter of local talent, calling his death “a deep loss” and sending prayers to his loved ones.
