The Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), David Odunmbaku, has marked the first 100 days of his second term in office by rolling out a broad empowerment programme, distributing business tools and direct financial support to residents of the council area.

What Was Done: Tools, Cash and Support for Many

At a ceremony held at the council secretariat, Odunmbaku donated a wide range of items intended to boost small businesses and support vulnerable groups. Among the tools and items given out were:

Grinding machines, industrial freezers and ovens, carpentry/plumbing tools, water pumps.

Poultry feeds, animal cages (for sheep and birds), solar systems for small businesses.

Fuel vouchers for commercial tricycle operators and bus operators amounting to ₦5 million.

Cash grants: ₦100,000 each for 50 market traders, and ₦50,000 each for 20 Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs).

Why It Matters: Delivering Campaign Promises

Odunmbaku said the gesture was part of fulfilling his campaign commitments, particularly to fight poverty and empower small business owners in Ojodu.

He described the first 100 days as “planting a seed of progress,” envisioning an Ojodu that is “cleaner, safer, more prosperous, digital and smart.”

He also announced plans to build a police station in Oke-Ira to address insecurity concerns and pledged further efforts in digital training for youth.

Broader Context: A Growing Trend Among Local Governments

The empowerment initiative in Ojodu mirrors a wider pattern across Lagos councils, where local leaders mark their first 100 days in office with empowerment drives. Earlier this year, the chairman of Ikorodu Local Government also distributed vocational/business tools and support to artisans, traders, women, and youths as part of his first-100-day milestone.

Observers note that such programmes aim not only to provide immediate relief but also to foster self-reliance and grassroots economic development.
