Court Remands Former CBN Governor Emefiele in Kuje Prison

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been remanded in Kuje prison by Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

This ruling comes as his bail request is still being considered.

Emefiele will be held in prison until November 22, when the court will rule on his bail application.

During the court proceedings, Emefiele’s lead attorney, Mathew Burkaa SAN, presented the bail application, which was vigorously opposed by the Federal Government’s Rotimi Oyedepo.

After hearing both sides’ arguments, Justice Muazu ruled that a bench verdict could not be issued immediately due to the numerous legal authority cited by the parties concerned.

The Judge expressed the need to take some time to thoroughly examine the authorities and review the exhibits provided by Emefiele to support his bail request.
