Davido Says He Nearly Quit Music Until Breakthrough Collaboration with Omah Lay
Afrobeats superstar Davido (David Adeleke) has revealed that he was seriously considering stepping away from music just before releasing what turned out to be a career-reviving hit featuring Omah Lay.
In a widely shared interview, Davido admitted he did not foresee the song — “With You” — becoming the standout track of his latest project.
He said that after more than ten years in the music industry, he was already preparing to slow down or possibly bow out.
Reflecting on his journey, Davido contrasted his experience with many artists who get big breaks early or midway through their careers. In his case, it came roughly 13 to 14 years in.
He described the timing of the hit as a blessing, saying the success “added more life” to his path just when he was considering quitting.
The song “With You” (released April 2025) features Omah Lay and has performed strongly, boosting Davido’s resurgence in public attention and reaffirming his relevance in the Afrobeats arena.
