DSS Warned of Kebbi School Attack, But Security Withdrew Shortly Before Kidnapping, Report
Authorities in Kebbi State reportedly received credible intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS) that the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu LGA, was at risk of attack.
According to a security insider quoted by Pointblanknews.com, the warning was serious enough that the governor convened an emergency security council and agreed to maintain 24/7 protection for students.
Despite these preparations, the source told investigators that security operatives left the campus only about 30 minutes before the raid, leaving the students exposed.
A teacher who escaped described how guards were present all night but mysteriously withdrew shortly before the attack.
In the pre-dawn assault, armed assailants stormed the school. The vice principal was killed, and 25 girls were abducted, although reports say a few of the students managed to flee.
The source characterized the incident as “clear sabotage,” suggesting possible internal complicity or a serious breakdown in security protocols despite advance warnings.
In response, Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris has announced the formation of a special investigation panel, to be led by the State DSS director. The committee is charged both with probing how the attackers were able to strike and with coordinating efforts to secure the return of the kidnapped students.
