Team Brazil delivered a stellar performance this weekend, winning the inaugural E1 Lagos GP, the first-ever all-electric powerboat race held on African waters.

From qualifying through to the final, Brazil dominated the event. They secured pole position, topped the group stages, and then sailed to victory in the final race on Sunday.

Their flawless execution saw them cross the finish line ahead of Team Blue Rising, backed by Indian cricket star Virat Kohli—which came in second. Meanwhile, Team Drogba Global Africa, co-owned by football legend Didier Drogba, grabbed third place.

The win earned Team Brazil 38 points, bringing their total to 89 for the season. Despite this success, they were still trailing in the overall standings as the E1 season heads toward its final race in Miami.

Team Brady, owned by NFL legend Tom Brady, though finishing fourth in Lagos, maintained their top spot overall, racking up 19 points over the weekend to reach 154 points. Rafael Nadal’s Team Rafa followed closely behind with 151, and Team Blue Rising held third with 145 points.

In his post-race comments, driver Timmy Hansen credited the team’s preparation and strong start:

“We came to Lagos and had a fantastic time. Securing the inside starting lane was key, and from the outset things went smoothly.”

The Lagos race wasn’t just a sporting affair, it was historic. Lagos becomes the first city in Africa to host an E1 event, marking the continent’s entry into electric powerboat racing.

The state government, along with sporting stakeholders, sees this as a signal of Nigeria’s commitment to innovation, clean energy, and raising its profile in motorsports.
