Ebonyi Government Reaffirms Commitment to Completing Abandoned Projects
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has restated his administration’s dedication to finishing unfinished government projects across the state, saying this is central to driving socio-economic development and ensuring that past investments yield tangible benefits for residents.
Speaking through the State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh, in Abakaliki on Monday, the governor emphasized that reviving abandoned infrastructure is both a moral obligation and a strategic priority for his government.
According to Omebeh, projects initiated by previous administrations, dating back to former Governor Sam Egwu’s tenure, are now receiving focused attention to ensure quality delivery and maximize their impact on communities across the state.
Among the initiatives being revitalised are major legacy projects such as the Oferekpe Water Scheme and the International Trade Centre, which the administration plans to complete and integrate into broader development goals.
The governor’s agenda also includes measures he says will spur economic growth, including the acquisition of aircraft for the Ebonyi International Airport and the establishment of a state-owned cement factory aimed at leveraging local mineral resources to attract investment and boost trade.
Omebeh highlighted the administration’s efforts to promote peace and stability as essential foundations for development, noting recent progress in resolving communal conflicts and restoring traditional institutions.
He also underlined the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, encouraging robust engagement with the media to keep citizens informed about progress on these projects.
Governor Nwifuru’s renewed focus on completing abandoned works aligns with earlier efforts to rehabilitate critical infrastructure, such as investing in the reactivation of the Oferekpe water system, which previously sat idle for years before receiving renewed funding and attention.
With these commitments, the Ebonyi State Government aims to ensure that long-stalled projects are brought to fruition, enhancing public services and strengthening the state’s economic outlook into 2026 and beyond.
