El-Rufai Rejects Viral Claims on 2027 Presidential Zoning
Former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has publicly dismissed reports circulating online that he made statements about which region of Nigeria should produce the country’s president in the 2027 general election.
In a statement released on Monday via his verified social media account, El-Rufai described the trending reports as false and misleading, stressing that he did not issue such comments in any speech, interview, or post. He clarified that he has not taken any position on the zoning of the 2027 presidency and urged Nigerians to rely only on information he shares through official channels.
El-Rufai, now a chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), emphasised that attributing unfounded opinions to him undermines responsible public discourse and contributes to the spread of misinformation. He reiterated that no such endorsement of regional zoning has been made by him.
The former governor’s clarification comes amid heightened political speculation around the 2027 elections, where discussions about regional rotations and party alignments have been prominent.
