Everton midfielder James Garner has addressed his side’s exit from the League Cup (Carabao Cup), attributing the disappointing result to a lacklustre first‑half performance and urging fans to stay positive about the remainder of the season.
The Merseyside club was knocked out of the competition after failing to build on a strong second‑half showing. Garner said the team struggled in the opening 45 minutes, which ultimately cost them a place in the next round. Despite rallying after the break and pulling a goal back, Everton could not find a winning edge before extra time and the subsequent penalty shootout.
Speaking after the match, the England international stressed that Everton’s season isn’t finished, even though their cup journey has ended. He pointed to the tight nature of the Premier League table and insisted the side still has plenty to play for.
“We’ve still got half a season left in the league, and one win can put you right up there,” Garner said, highlighting optimism despite the setback. He also acknowledged that injuries, players away at the Africa Cup of Nations, and other absences have stretched the squad.
