Ex‑D’Tigers Captain Ike Diogu Mourns Father, Praises His Legacy
Former Nigerian national basketball team skipper Ike Diogu has publicly mourned the passing of his father, Dr. Edward Chidozie Diogu, who died at the age of 82, describing him as a respected community leader, educator and mentor whose life was defined by service and compassion.
In an emotional tribute, Diogu said his father’s impact was measured not by titles but by the lives he touched and the values he lived by, stressing that true legacy is found in service to others. He pledged to honour those principles in his own life.
Dr. Diogu, a native of Umuezeduru, Amauzari in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, was remembered as a man of peace and integrity, well‑regarded in his community for his humility, generosity and unwavering faith.
His first son, Chief Edward Diogu Jr, echoed similar sentiments, describing their father as a moral compass and source of wisdom and patience, whose legacy of community development will continue through his family.
The late Dr. Diogu’s wife, Mrs. Vidah Jane Ngozi Diogu, expressed heartfelt gratitude for nearly five decades of love, guidance and commitment in their marriage, praising her husband’s honesty and dedication to family.
Representatives of the Imo State Government, including the Commissioner for Sports, Obinna Onyeocha, conveyed official condolences to the Diogu family. They highlighted Ike Diogu’s contributions to Nigerian sports and prayed for strength for the family during their time of grief.
