“Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI Ordered to Vacate Office Following Tenure Extension

President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent extension of his tenure was quickly followed by a decision to terminate the services of the executive vice chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Professor Mohammed Haruna. Haruna, who had completed two terms in office, was expected to hand over to a successor this week but was granted a two-year extension instead.

However, it was announced that he has been ordered to vacate the office immediately, and no reasons were given for his extension or termination.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Haruna’s tenure was rescinded because he had completed two tenures of five years each.

Mustapha directed the NASENI boss to hand over his office to the next most senior officer in the establishment. Despite the lack of explanation for the sudden turn of events, the SGF commended Haruna for his contributions to the development of the engineering infrastructure sub-sector of the economy and wished him success in his future endeavors.

NASENI is a Presidency agency that aims to foster an appropriate and dynamic Science and Engineering infrastructure base for achieving home initiated and home sustained industrialization in Nigeria.
