A night of music turned tragic as several devoted fans of Afrobeats sensation Seyi Vibez lost their lives in a fatal accident while returning from his concert at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Lagos Island.

An eyewitness on X (formerly Twitter), identified as @alli_ya7, shared heartbreaking footage from the scene, revealing that the drivers were recklessly racing on the expressway, attempting dangerous overtakes. “They left the show and started racing on the express, trying to overtake other cars. Why race on the highway? May their souls rest in peace. SPEED KILLS,” she wrote, her message resonating across social media as both a lament and warning.

The crash involved more than four vehicles, resulting in devastating damage and emotional fallout, as seen in widely circulated videos.

According to SaharaReporters, the cascading collisions occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge during the early hours of Sunday. Six people reportedly perished in the crashes. One victim, a young woman, was tragically thrown into the lagoon and later buried in accordance with Islamic rites; the remaining five were laid to rest at Marikaz Cemetery in Agege on Monday morning.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that emergency responders rushed the victims to a hospital, where several were pronounced dead. Their statement underscores the grim toll of reckless driving in Nigeria.

The incident serves as a powerful reminder of the tangible risks of reckless driving, especially immediately after large events when adrenaline and excitement are high. Memorable as Seyi Vibez’s performance was, the tragedy that followed casts a shadow over the celebrations. Road safety advocates have used this tragic moment to reinforce the message: speeding kills, and highways are no place for stunts.
