Fayose Congratulates Factional PDP Chairman, Calls for Unity and Justice
In the midst of escalating internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Ayodele Fayose, ex-governor of Ekiti State, on Saturday congratulated the newly appointed acting national chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, and called on him to restore confidence in the party and address state-level grievances.
In a public statement, Fayose urged Abdulrahman to unite the party and rebuild trust among its members. He emphasised that the new leader should focus on redressing alleged injustices within state chapters, especially referring to Ekiti and other states where he says irregularities occurred.
The congratulatory message comes as the PDP finds itself split into two major factions: one aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and the other representing what could be considered the party establishment. The Wike-aligned faction had, on Saturday, announced the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Umar Damagum, and five other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Fayose highlighted that the national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 to elect new leadership—must only proceed after state congresses have been properly conducted and court rulings respected. He warned that the party constitution and relevant court orders must guide all processes moving forward.
As the party navigates these internal battles, Fayose’s intervention signals growing concern among senior figures about the PDP’s cohesion and prospects heading into future elections.
