Legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac has vehemently rejected claims that they will reunite to perform at author J.K. Rowling’s upcoming 60th birthday party. The band labeled the reports as “categorically false.”

A representative told Rolling Stone that the story of a full Fleetwood Mac reunion for Rowling’s James Bond–themed celebration is “not in the realm of true.”

Why the Rumor Was Doubtful from the Start

Fleetwood Mac last performed together in November 2019.

The group’s longtime member Christine McVie passed away in 2022, and Lindsey Buckingham was dismissed from the band in 2018. Both facts make a full reunion highly unlikely.

Stevie Nicks has previously affirmed that the band could not “put Fleetwood Mac back together in any way” without McVie.

Buckingham’s health has been a concern: after undergoing heart surgery in 2019, he is said to be unable to commit to the strenuous demands of Fleetwood Mac’s typical touring schedule.

Other Context

The original report in The Daily Mail claimed Rowling would host a two-day, James Bond–theme event where Fleetwood Mac would perform.

Despite the rumors, there are some recent signs of renewed collaboration among individual members: Buckingham worked with Mick Fleetwood on Miley Cyrus’ single Secrets and has been involved in promoting the reissue of his earlier duo album Buckingham Nicks.

Additionally, Apple is producing the first authorized documentary on Fleetwood Mac, directed by Frank Marshall, which will include interviews with the surviving core members of the band.
